How do they compare price-wise?

Basically, I just got a TAX re-bate (don't you love the government at times?!) and am thinking of getting one of the above...

Any suggestions.

(NB. I wanna spend about ?50-60 on it...)

I would say DAT. However ?60 may not be enough to buy a decent DAT recorder. Either way I would suggest a machine that allows you to adjust you levels. If you don't need a TC ready unit the following is nice--

I've found that different people have different opinions on this one. I think that overall MD is easier, but overall DAT can provide more proffessional results.

However I agree with Nigel and the Monster that your budget is restricting you to an extremely limited choice. Might be worth having a sniff around ebay.

which ever is cheapest. Personally I'd go for an iPod + Mic. Can you tell the difference between 48khz and 44khz audio, I can't tell the difference between 44 and 22, but mind you my speakers on my TV are pants.

?60 is a cheap MiniDisc never mind a DAT... I think at that price you are going to have to settle for what you can get rather than which offers best features

I'm using a Pioneer D-05 DAT deck with offers a digital optical link directly into my SGI Octane workstation (it also comes with digital coax and analog connections). One annoying thing is the SCMS feature when copying from a DAT tape (but which can be disabled). Other than that, the quality is astounding. I bought the deck in 1995 in Japan and paid around ?300 for it. Never regretted that investment.

Get it RIGHT NOW from eBay for ?40. I am not related to the guy holding the auction, just searched for it and there it was!
